I just downloaded and installed MySQL Workbench and am trying to make my first database connection. I'm running MAMP on a Mac, and I see the following values on my phpMyAdmin home page:

Host localhost
Port 3306
User root
Password root

I'm trying to connect to a database with the Standard (TCP/IP) method. (I don't have a clue what Local Socket/Pipe or SSH are.) So I changed the Host to localhost. Then I changed User and Password to my database's username and password.

When I test the connection, I get the error message "Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (61)" Why does it say that when I changed the Host to "localhost"?

I can't even remember how or when I did it, but I apparently changed my password to a alphanumeric code that looks something like this: aLRsrSqXzhR17ZSX I THINK my original password was an eight-letter word, but neither than word nor the alphanumeric code work with MySQL Workbench - unless it's rejecting my connection for some other reason.

Can someone tell me how to connect to a database - or how to figure out why my connection isn't working? Thanks.

Hello.

I know my title is not set well, but i couldn't find the right words to explain in a little sentence.

So, I have set a SSH tunnel via Putty. I connect to my remote SQL server via MysqlWorkbench and a normal TCP/IP connection.
In that Workbench connection, i have hostame = localhost:3306 and port :3306.
It works well!

But now the change : i have installed a WAMP server on my PC.
Now, my connection does not reach my remote SQL Server, but it does connect to my Wamp SQL Server.
It is normal, because each hostname is localhost.

BUT, i would like to keep connecting to my remote SQL Server through this connection, and not ending connecting to my Wamp.

Do you know which parameters should i change?

How i do, which aprameters :
* connect to SSH tunnel set by Putty
Options : hostname : ovhdev.***.fr
Port : 2222 type of connection : SSH
SSH Tunnels : SourcePort : 3306 Destination : Localhost:3306 Local.
* connect via TCP IP set by Mysql Workbench. hostname : localhost:3306 username : root
* Wamp SQL Server (phpmyadmin) set on Localhost, port 3306 (found in my.ini)

Do you think i have to change the port in my.ini file?

How to turn on displaying of schema name in table header left of table name in EER Diagram in Mysql Workbench?
If i create EER Diagram of several schemas and there are tables with same names in it - i cant differentiate them only by looking at diagram! ((( The only way - to doubleclick table and look in editor (right below).

Hi, firends.

I run into a datafile directory problem.

When I connect to server using cmd, I get datafiles in below directory, designated during installation process.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\data

But if I use workbench, it get datafiles in the data folder under MySQL Server directory. The same happens usng navicat and Mysql front.
D:\Program Files\MySQL\MySql Server 5.6\data\(installation folder)

So I get two folders with different datafiles even with same localhost and user. This is not wanted. I tried to modify datadir in my.ini as the second one, but server cannot work then.

I'm confused about the different datafiles. Any comments?

I've use MySQL a bit in the past, but just doing basic queries on a database that's already setup.

Now, I'm trying to figure out how to import data from 2 text files. I'm working with Workbench 6.0. I don't know if I have to create a database, per se, or simply import the data and create two tables as the data is imported. I can select Database and Connect to Database, but I don't think I necessarily want to connect to a database. I don't see any way to import files. In SQL Server or Access this would be very simple. I just don't see any way to do it in MySQL. Can someone here give me some guidance?

JHow do I fix or get around this problem w. it saying in the Workbench that I have "too many connections" anyway?? It says this when I try to log back on to the mysql server.

Hello!

I'm on to bring a software called DataWrapper to work. Tot test it before putting it on a real server, I use XAMPP to support WWW and MySQL. Ironnically, I got it to work on one of my test machines. But same handwork stupidlay fails on 2 others.

Win-Firewall is open to mysqld. Port (to surely avoid mismatch meanwhile redifined to 6603) is set to any "INI" file I found, within XAMPP, my.ini, and relating tool, too. XAMPP starts MySQL (as a service), shows up port 6603 and I do not have any clue it shall not work correctly.

Now, I got, as had got, order to create a database (scheme) by a delivered .sql file. And I do not see how to fullfill that simple step using MySQL Workbench 6.

Do I need, as V5.2, to create a server connection and a MySQL-Connection? Or do I only need new a MySQL-Connection? Anyway, I started created a new connection. But, to me, what is difference between a describing name of a connection and the one of database to connect to? So I kept using a name DataWrapper seems to expect. Apache listens to Port 80 and to «localhost»; which one else XAMPP's MySQL can use to offer port 6603?
So I set in 127.0.0.1 or ›localhost‹ with port 6603 (as my running teplate shows), using user root (following some ini-files). Testing connection (planning to add schema later), I get (like) Access denied to user root@localhost.

Where is my databse, an access could be denied to for it probably (schema) does not exist?? How to connect to only the MySQL instance and then ›feed this one< by that sql-file to create a database from?

What do I simply think wrong here? Which simple step is it I totally missmatch by seeing «no forest for all that trees» (as a proverb of my home easy)?

The problem that I am having is a big use-ability issue with mysql workbench ~ The fonts are so tiny, I practically need a magnifying glass if I want to try and trying to inspect any schema.

There is a config xml file, and a really poor interface for changing font sizes in the Appearance tab. However other than saving values it does not seem to have kind of effect on the actual font sizes anywhere in the application.

what I want to do:
Increase font size in Navigator, information, and result set tabs.

You *can increase the font in query window -- but thats it. Any ideas?

Maybe I am doing this all wrong, being a noob, but:

Exported all databases from 5.5 using workbench "Data Export"
Upgraded mysql from 5.5 to 5.6 (workbench 6)

Tried Data Import of the databases - workbench script hangs indefinitely with no disk activity.

I note workbench attempts the import script as follows:
"mysql.exe" --defaults-extra-file="c:\users\andrew\appdata\local\temp\tmptcqnli.cnf" --host=localhost --user=root --port=3306 --default-character-set=utf8 --comments < "Q:\\Capture\\SQLBackupGimli\\20120518dump_analysis_items.sql"

The above script hangs workbench, although I note the .cnf file has been correctly created by workbench AND contains the correct password as follows:
[client]
password="pass"

Finally, I note that if I manually run mysql with a -ppass option, the import works no problem...(but with warning about password in clear)

mysql.exe" --host=localhost --user=root -ppass --port=3306 --default-character-set=utf8 --comments < "Q:\\Capture\\SQLBackupGimli\\20120518dump_analysis_items.sql"

Above script works fine.

Anyone know whats up with the workbench import going wrong????

In the World Database Country table there are a bunch of funky characters. Character set is at UTF8 but i'm still having issues with import/export. Any tips on how to fix this?

My computer froze and I needed to restart or I did something inbetween, but my schemas that showed the databases on the left window is not appearing. I can see my database exist by using the show databases query. Right now it shows Inforation:
No Object Selected.

How can I get my window pane on the left to show the databases/schema's? Thanks I am new to MYSql.

Hey all, I have a new MySQL server running version 5.5.36 that I plan on using to migrate a database to. It's running on Scientific Linux 6, a branch of Red Hat.

I can connect to the MySQL instance via TCP over SSH (for some reason the TCP option doesn't work) and manage the databases, users, etc. However, when I tried to open the options file it generated the error "Error opening configuration file" AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'get_file_content'.

After some searching someone suggested checking the Manage Server Connections settings under Server--Management Access Settings--System Profile tab.

All of the options are grayed out on the System Profile tab.

There are a couple things that I need to put out there for full disclosure.

1. Linux installed as a database server which had MySQL 5.1 on it out of the box. I needed 5.5 on it for compatibility reasons so I removed MySQL completely to install 5.5 based on instructions here - http://stackoverflow.com/a/9362289.

2. In following the instructions I installed MySQL 5.5 from a Remi repository, which isn't officially supported here.

I am hesitant to move forward with this MySQL instance until I know that the server is properly installed and configured so that I don't have to start over if I run into a brick wall in the future as a result of something I could have done preventatively.
