MySQL Workbench Pam Authentication (no replies)

I have configured the pam authentication for MySQL and that is working fine with "HeidiSQL" (MySQL Query Manager).
However, I am not able to connect to the MySQL server using "MySQL Workbench" or Linux Console "mysql" client.
I am getting the message "Authentication plugin "dialog" cannot be loaded".
Specified module cannot be found.
I would appreciate if someone could please suggest what an issue could be.
