Work Bench has stopped running (3 replies)

System Ubuntu 10.4 live on USB Hdd.
Mysql 5.1.41 on local host Workbench 5.2.26
Has been good, learning to create data bases and connect and display tho OOo base forms and it works very well.
Now WB won't open from the Gui menue just flashes its screen and crashes.
Tried to reinstall error message 'subprocees killed by signal (broken pipe)'
Tried to delete but "unclean" I think some related packages remain.
Tried to install WB 5.2.25 same problem.
My data bases are still intact and accessible at the command line and from OOobase.
I prefer WB for connecting tables and creating SQL scripts for me to paste into windows etc to convert from Access.
Can you help me please to get Work bench running again, Thanks
