Root Password Issues, researched most stuff.. Can someone help? (no replies)

So im having an issue logging into root because i dont know my password and i tried setting it through my terminal (macbook btw) but it doesnt seem to be taking it. i even tried logging into root without the password and it does the same thing '(using password:NO)'

does anyone know what i can do so i can connect to my local host through workbench? am i running the right version? am i on the wrong host (‘3306’)? did i download the wrong server?
