Downloading and installing the connector got me connected to my exixting mysql database. I still don't know how to connect workbench to an existing Open Office database. There is plenty of information available for going the other way.
My basic problem is apparently a lack of education on associated matters.(basics)

MySql Workbench beginner can't connect to anything. So thus far workbench is useless to me. Please help.
At this point my problems are very basic & surely due to my complete lack of knowledge of applicable procedures. I can't connect to database files on my own system. I know nothing about TCP/IP, Sockets or pipes,...
I have also tried to follow the tutorial to Big Iron...with no success. Everything is registered.
I have searched for tutorials but only find things in foreign languages for the Workbench. (except for the Big Iron thing) & the stuff on Oracles site is confussing.
As it is my understanding that custom demands an abundance of information whenever requesting help on this forum here is what surely must be enough info.
My System:
Gateway NV59 Windows 7 Home Premium Intel i5
MySql (installed on my sys)
Workbench 5.2CE Program Files(x86)\MySql\MySql Workbench 5.2 CE\
Server 5.1 Program Files\MySql\MySql Server5.1\
My database files
MySql Program Data\MySql\MySql Server 5.1\data
I also have an Open Office(3.2) database I would like to connect to. I'm not sure if I'm running a 32 or 64 bit version.
&
A web site for which I hope to set up a remote database. Not yet created. The hosting company (Fat Cow) does offer SQL database support.
I have just discovered the connector downloads but am a little hesitant to install things I may not need. I have a lot of Programs already.
Oh and Glass Fish is also available via my netbeans 6.9. Apache Tomcat too.
Any Help or direction will be appreciated
